Because of Your Love

Does your faith life dominate and direct the rest of your everyday life? For many people, instead of fasting or balancing life's pleasures and letting our faith be the root of everything, a good prayer life, and even mass attendance becomes a 'past time' and these other pleasures and business of life take over. It shouldn't take this spot in our lives, but in the modern time of chaos and change, many people think of faith as something they can always get back to later. It's not right. Think about this analogy: you receive a phone for Christmas one year, but you cannot use it. You pay it off every month, but don't even turn it on. It's something that could benefit you, and you're paying for it, but it is set aside. There wouldn't be a point to owning the phone right? We've all been given this great gift to embrace God's love, and live lives of faith, yet so much of the time, we abuse this gift and fill it with other things instead.

Today's Gospel states:'Now John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting; and people came and said to him, "Why do John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?" And Jesus said to them, "Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. The days will come, when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day. No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; if he does, the patch tears away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear is made. And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; if he does, the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost, and so are the skins; but new wine is for fresh skins"'(Mark 2:18-22).

In today's Gospel we hear how in everything, we need to prepare ourselves for God. When you think about God's love for the world, it's unending and always with us. If we think about the lowest points in our lives, we'll realize that we've always been able to push through, and to come out on the other side, through hope, and the power of God's love with us. Jesus tells us that it's important to take every moment we have to focus on faith, living in God's love. It may not be easy, but there's always hope. Take some time to ask God to help you prepare your heart to live in His love, always.

Today's prayer comes from online, a prayer for living God's love:

Living God,

draw us deeper into your love;

Jesus our Lord,

send us to care and serve;

Holy Spirit,

make us heralds of good news.

Stir us, strengthen us,

teach and inspire us

to live your love

with generosity and joy,

imagination and courage;

for the sake of your world

and in the name of Jesus,
