Light in the Dark
Have you ever had people in your life lead you down the wrong path? Maybe they mean well at the start, but they twist your thought, actions and it becomes a mess. Think about the Star Wars movies. Darth Sidious tempts Anakin, slowly leading him towards the dark side. He makes him believe that everyone is plotting against him, even his wife. In the end, we see the result of Darth Vader. However, even those in the most dark lifestyles can come to see the light. By the end, his son convinces him to overthrow the Emperor, and restore good within the galaxy, bringing him back to the good side. With God, no matter how far we fall off track, there is always a plan in motion to bring us back to a place of grace and light.
Today's Gospel states:'And they went into Caper'na-um; and immediately on the sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught. And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes. And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, "What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God." But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent, and come out of him!" And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him. And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, "What is this? A new teaching! With authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him." And at once his fame spread everywhere throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee' (Mark 1:21-28).
In today's Gospel we hear how Jesus saves the man from the unclean spirit within him. The Spirit was stating false things about God, and Jesus, but as Jesus draws the spirit out, the man is healed and amazed at the miracle before his eyes. Even the spirits obey him, those attesting God's goodness. God is all-powerful, all-knowing and all-loving. God is always in control, even if we feel we're at our lowest and cannot see the light. No one is beyond redemption. Are you at a rocky place in your faith right now, maybe your prayer life is dry or you feel abandoned? Take some time to ask God to help you see the light, and guide you on the right path.
Today's prayer comes from 'belief net' a prayer for light in the darkness:
I thank You that You are never overcome by darkness. Even the darkest night is as bright as the brightest day to You. Thank You that as I walk with You, learning to walk in Your ways, seeking Your divine presence in my life moment by moment, this darkness I presently feel will dissipate, and the night around me will be like day once again.
Thank You that You promise me that I will shine again. As You transform my life and deliver me from these present challenges that seek to overwhelm and destroy me, rather than being overwhelmed and destroyed, these challenges will be the making of me. I will become stronger and a brighter light for Your glory.
Wash me clean of all darkness. Take me into the light of Your glorious presence and radiate all darkness out of my being in Jesus’ Name. I thank You for the sacrifice of Your dear Son, Jesus, who bled and died to give me an opportunity to be forgiven and cleansed.
I trust in the Holy blood and water that gushed forth from the sacred, broken heart of Jesus to flood over me and to break this cycle of darkness plaguing my life today. I stand beneath that flow, bowing in worship for Your generous, glorious love for me.
In Jesus’ Name Amen
