How Do You Treat Your Neighbour?
How do you treat your neighbour? Think about the winter season right now, streets, driveways and sidewalks covered in snow. We all need to help each other out right? It makes everything seem better, life has more value. The other day, I saw a neighbour out shovelling his driveway with his kids. An hour later, he was still out there, down the street doing his neighbour's driveway. Then, even later, he had gone to the other side of the street and was getting his kids to help shovel there too. There's no choosing, when someone needs the help, we should be kind and helpful, being disciples for the world. God values His people in the same way, all His people, not selective groups. We are all children of God.
Today's Second Reading states:'And Peter opened his mouth and said: "Truly I perceive that God shows no partiality, but in every nation any one who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. You know the word which he sent to Israel, preaching good news of peace by Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all), the word which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism which John preached: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him'(Acts 10:34-38).
In today's reading, we hear how God loves each and every one of us, all of His people, despite our belief or sin. Anyone who does what is right and just is glorified, represents His spirit within the world. Think about that person who spent hours helping his neighbours. How often do you see people doing good for others? Probably not just those of your faith right? I'm sure there are believers who could do more to help those around them too. Take some time to see where God is calling you to help others in your life.
Today's prayer comes from 'Catholic Online' a prayer for everyone:
Heavenly Father, the beauty and dignity of human life was the crowning of your creation. You further ennobled that life when your Son became one with us in his incarnation. Help us to realize the sacredness of human life and to respect it from the moment of conception until the last moment at death. Give us courage to speak with truth and love and with conviction in defence of life. Help us to extend the gentle hand of mercy and forgiveness to those who do not reverence your gift of life. To all, grant pardon for the times we have failed to be grateful for your precious gift of life or to respect it in others. We ask this in Jesus' Name. Amen.
