Trusting over Testing

Do you try to put God to the test? We always ask for things, we're people who seek, who want more, always trying to be the best. We ask God to help us, to give a sign that life is going to turn out okay. I know for myself, working crazy hours over studying and then going in to write an exam can really test limits. In the end, you come out with nothing but relief, like a boulder has been lifted. There are always difficult times, whether that's a test, a difficult confrontation, a bad argument. We try to take control, but ultimately, it's God in control, whether you've seen a sign or not.

Today's First Reading states:'Again the LORD spoke to Ahaz, "Ask a sign of the LORD your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven." But Ahaz said, "I will not ask, and I will not put the LORD to the test." And he said, "Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, a young woman shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Imman'u-el'(Isaiah 7:10-14).

In today's reading we hear how it's important to rely on God in every area of our lives. It's important to trust and not to test Him. We need to move forward, to constantly search for areas to improve for the better. Are there areas where you feel you could have done better? You need to make improvements, but not in the area of money and power, but in learning how to grow as faithful disciples. It's important to grow, to keep moving forward and learning to ask God for help and fill us with grace. Take some time to ask God to help you be faithful and open to His will for your life.

Today's prayer comes from 'Encouraging Faith' a prayer for trusting God in everything:

What an incredible God you are! When I look at the beauty of your creation, I’m in awe of your mighty and majestic ways. When I see the work of your hand, I’m overwhelmed by your love for me. Lord, I believe that you saved my soul; Help me trust that you have made me whole. Lord, I believe that you hear my prayers; Help me trust that your answer is best. Lord, I trust that you created the mountains; Help me trust that you can move them. Please forgive my failures and Increase my ability to give you everything. Thank you, Jesus. Amen.
