Follow Through in Faith

How often do we start things and never actually have any follow-through? This could be from having the ambition to start quilting and only making it half way through a project. Maybe it's starting to write a paper or blog, powering through strong and giving up before it's done. There are many areas where we are people who give up, people who become afraid and don't know how to have hope to keep moving. When it comes to faith, sometimes we lack the follow through. We are able to go to mass, to say grace, but there's no other sign to others in our daily lives that we're Christians.

Today's Gospel states:'As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zeb'edee and John his brother, in the boat with Zeb'edee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed him'(Matthew 4:18-22).

In today's Gospel we hear how Jesus tells his Apostles to follow him, completely. They need to give up everything and immediately leave wit him. So often we are people who need a plan, not that we necessarily keep to it, but we cannot just get up and follow. We're afraid to follow through with our discipleship, to be people of faith in the world. Jesus calls us to be disciples in every area of our lives, in the good and the bad. We need to be prepared at every moment to follow through and trust God to show us the way. Take some time to ask God to help you be faithful in every area of your life.

Today's prayer comes from 'crosswalk' a prayer for guidance when life is changing:

Lord, I’m here today with open hands and an open heart, ready to depend on you to help me through the day and all it will bring my way. Help me be like Nehemiah, help me come to you for guidance, strength, provision and protection. As I face tough choices and hard situations, help me remember my belovedness, help me remember that I am Your child and Your representative to the world around me. Help me live today in a way that brings honor to Your holy name. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
