Praise the Goodness of God
How much more in life do we rant and pose negative attitudes compared to praise with positivity? It is so easy to go complaining to our friends and family about the little things going wrong, even more especially when tragic events happen. However, when it comes time to be praising, rejoicing in the goodness we have received, how often do we thank God and praise? If we've gotten what we wanted, or things worked out great, we will say quicks prayers of thanks to God, but then turn around the next minute in judgement. In a fast- paced world, it gets harder to slow down and think about the good things we've had throughout the day, clearly taking time to thank God for helping us through every good and bad situation, especially the good.
Today's Gospel states:'On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Sama'ria and Galilee. And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices and said, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us." When he saw them he said to them, "Go and show yourselves to the priests." And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then said Jesus, "Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?" And he said to him, "Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well"'(Luke 17:11-19).
In this passage, Jesus heals ten people, and in turn, only one comes back to praise. They taught him for healing, but couldn't take the time to thank him for the the life ahead he'd given them, but went about their lives. How often are we like these leapers, seeking help from God when times are rough, but then turning our backs as soon as life gets good. God is with us in the good, the bad, the ugly, at every point in our lives. He id helping us achieve our best selves, even if it's a process. We need to not only ask, but to praise, in every moment. Take some time to thank God for the good in your life today.
