Lost Your Way?
Have you ever been lost? Maybe you went into one of those corn mazes, trying to find your way through. Maybe you went travelling to a new place with family and took a wrong turn at one point and weren't sure where you were. It's not a good feeling. You feel panicked and unsure about what will happen next. What is it like when we're lost in life? Very much the same right? You lose motivation, start trailing off down the wrong path. Maybe you start praying less, only occasionally attending mass. We all lose our way, and the feeling of being lost is nothing compared to the peace we feel being one with God.
Today's Gospel states:'He entered Jericho and was passing through. And there was a man named Zacchae'us; he was a chief tax collector, and rich. And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not, on account of the crowd, because he was small of stature. So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was to pass that way. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchae'us, make haste and come down; for I must stay at your house today." So he made haste and came down, and received him joyfully. And when they saw it they all murmured, "He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner." And Zacchae'us stood and said to the Lord, "Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have defrauded any one of anything, I restore it fourfold." And Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of man came to seek and to save the lost"'(Luke 19:1-10).
Today's Gospel talks about how Jesus invites all people into the Kingdom, even the tax collector. He didn't come for the believer, but for those who needed to learn, needed renewal in God. Jesus shows us that anyone can fid salvation, anyone can change. The lost can find their way, but they need to have faith. I myself have had a few of those moments, and the best thing you can do is stop, pray and ask God for grace and to find your way. In every situation where we feel we've hit road blocks in our lives, we need to ask God for guidance, to help us find our way.
Today's prayer comes from 'Catholic Online' a prayer to Saint Anthony:
Wondrous Saint Anthony, glorious for the fame of your miracles, you had the happiness of receiving in your arms our blessed Lord as a little child. Obtain for me from His mercy this favor that I desire from the bottom of my heart: (mention your request)
Since you were so gracious to poor sinners, do not regard the lack of merit on the part of him who calls upon you, but consider the glory of God, which will by exalted once more through you, by the salvation of my soul and the granting of the petition that I now earnestly present to you.
As a pledge of my gratitude, I beg you to accept my promise to live henceforth more faithfully according to the teaching of the Gospel and to be devoted to the service of the poor whom you ever loved and still love so much. Bless this my resolution and obtain for me the grace to be faithful to it till death. Amen.
