Offer Your Service
Do you make yourself a servant to the world? Some people like to just put in their time for the day, grudgingly and complaining the entire time. This could be at work, or school, maybe as a parent or friend. They don't enjoy the opportunity before them, and so don't make the best of it, don't put their all into their work. Maybe your standing at work, constantly looking at the clock, desperately wanting to go home, but you know you have seven more hours still. What do you do? Do you complain the entire seven hours and drag yourself to do the very minimum, or, do you change your attitude, take a positive role, and help others to be happy, doing your very best? You could be at home resting, doing anything else, but God brought you to a time of work. You are where you are for a reason, even if it's not evident yet. We should thank God for every opportunity we have to serve, whatever that may mean.
Today's Gospel states:'"Will any one of you, who has a servant plowing or keeping sheep, say to him when he has come in from the field, `Come at once and sit down at table'? Will he not rather say to him, `Prepare supper for me, and gird yourself and serve me, till I eat and drink; and afterward you shall eat and drink'? Does he thank the servant because he did what was commanded? So you also, when you have done all that is commanded you, say, `We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty''(Luke 17:7-10).
In today's Gospel we hear how there is a servant, who should do everything he can to please his master, and then take time for himself, but only after. It is his duty. In the same way, it is our duty to do everything we can to serve God. One of the key things is to acknowledge that God has given us life, each and every day, and there are opportunities for us to help us grow, to become better people of God. Take some time to ask God to help you be a more willing servant in everything you do.
Today's prayer comes from 'Servants of God' a prayer to be a servant:
Lord God, You know the hidden parts of our hearts, Come now and fill us with the spirit of sincerity As we dedicate ourselves to You And to service within Your Kingdom.
Lord, we desire to serve You and others With a totality of heart, soul and strength. We strive to live within the simplicity of the gospels, Open and obedient to Your Voice And whole in our loving.
Lord and Divine Friend, We dedicate ourselves anew to the vows of Baptism, To a life of prayer and worship of You.
We re-commit ourselves to being servants To the needs of those around us And to the needs of all the world.
May we find holiness and salvation here, In this place at this time, Where You, Lord, have placed us. Amen.
