Introvert or Extrovert?
If you claim to be a believer, can you keep solely to yourself? You can do daily prayer, follow the Commandments, do everything to be a person of God. However, without a community, there is no Church of Christ. There is only you. In order to be a true follower and person practicing their faith, it takes giving oneself completely for the Church, for people around you, the believer and the non-believer. Think about, for example, the Christmas season. You have that cell phone you so desperately want to upgrade, with crack on the screen, moving slow. There is also that perfect Christmas gift you've been considering for your mom, a phone, so she can communicate with friends and family better. Which do you buy? What makes more sense? The gift for your mom right? It will be the most rewarding and sacrificial in a good way.
Today's Second Reading states:'For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building. According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and another man is building upon it. Let each man take care how he builds upon it. For no other foundation can any one lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If any one destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and that temple you are'(1 Corinthians 3:9-11, 16-17).
In today's reading we hear about how we need a foundation to build our faith upon. It is impossible to do on our own, we need support from everyone, especially God. If we try to build up faith by ourselves, then we will not have the community experience needed to actually preach the Gospel that we learn, and share it with others. Like the cell phone, we need to step out of our personal comfort zones and take a leap of faith towards being more open to living the Gospel and being a stone that helps create the foundation of faith we know, for everyone. Take some time to ask God how you can step up and be an example of faith for those around you.
Today's prayer comes from 'unveiled' a prayer for stepping out:
Stepping out of my comfort zone is not easy. In fact, as you know, many times it is extremely difficult. I am an introvert. I keep to myself. Yet you sometimes ask me to step out of my comfort zone and I desire to be faithful. I want to trust that you will equip me to do all you have called me to do, but it requires that I lean on you more than ever. So I come before you know and ask for your help. Be my guide, my strength, and my source of joy. Help me to do all that you have called me to do…and when I do…I will praise you! For I know it was only by the power of your Holy Spirit that I was able too! Thank you Lord for loving me and helping me grow into the woman you desire me to be in Jesus’ name AMEN!
