Seek the Kingdom
What can we know about the Kingdom of God, or of God Himself? Well, we know that we cannot give any human characteristics for description, other than perfection, complete, good in every way. Anselm tells us that there is no way to repay God for our sins, as everything is from God, a part of God, and must therefore be repaid by God in order to find satisfaction. God sends Jesus, one with him, in human form, so to die and restore us to holiness, an act of love that humanity could never hope to truly understand, and only hope that we could follow in the example of Christ's love for others. How then do we come to know God and His Kingdom? Through Jesus and his life, teachings, death and resurrection.
Today's Gospel states:'He said therefore, "What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it? It is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his garden; and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches." And again he said, "To what shall I compare the kingdom of God? It is like leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened"'(Luke 13:18-21).
In today's Gospel, we hear how the Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed, growing like a tree. We see pieces of the Kingdom on earth, through Jesus, through those who heal, those who pray, those who are kind. Every time we take steps to seek God and grow in our faith lives, we are like that one mustard, beginning to grow and blossom all the more until we become disciples, like a tree rooted with a firm foundation of faith and love. Take some time to consider areas where you can grow in your faith. Maybe it's that long car ride to work in the morning, where you can use the time to speak to God. Take the time to improve your life as a disciple, for God's Kingdom is waiting for you.
Today's prayer comes from 'Catholic Online' a prayer for help in daily actions:
Our Father, may everything I do begin with Your Inspiration, continue with Your Help, and reach perfection under Your Guidance. With Your loving care guide me in my daily actions. Help me to persevere with love and sincerity. Teach me to judge wisely the things of earth and to love the things of Heaven. Keep me in Your presence and never let me be separated from You. Your Spirit made me Your child, confident to call You Father. Make Your Love the foundation of my life. Teach me to long for Heaven. May its promise and hope guide my way on earth until I reach eternal life with You. Amen.
