With One Voice
Do you heed the voice of the Lord? How do you even understand this question, as literally hearing God's voice? As reading God's Word and feeling Him speaking to you? I always find that when I go for Mass, just after having received communion, you can feel God's presence in the Church. Of course, God is always there, especially in the Church. However, at this time, it is quiet, reflective, time to thank God for coming into your heart, mind, soul through this experience of the Eucharist, along with the rest of the community. You can feel God's grace working in your heart, telling you where you need to make changes, and what you need to do when you "go out and share the Good News". It is the time when God strengthens us for the journey ahead and prepares our hearts and minds for what He is sending us out to do.
Today's First Reading states:'"And you shall say: `Righteousness belongs to the Lord our God, but confusion of face, as at this day, to us, to the men of Judah, to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to our kings and our princes and our priests and our prophets and our fathers, because we have sinned before the Lord, and have disobeyed him, and have not heeded the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in the statutes of the Lord which he set before us. From the day when the Lord brought our fathers out of the land of Egypt until today, we have been disobedient to the Lord our God, and we have been negligent, in not heeding his voice. So to this day there have clung to us the calamities and the curse which the Lord declared through Moses his servant at the time when he brought our fathers out of the land of Egypt to give to us a land flowing with milk and honey. We did not heed the voice of the Lord our God in all the words of the prophets whom he sent to us, but we each followed the intent of his own wicked heart by serving other gods and doing what is evil in the sight of the Lord our God' (Baruch 1:15-22).
In today's reading, we hear how God is righteous but we are greatly confused as humans, we are sinners, imperfect. We disobey and tend to do what we want, out of stubbornness as opposed to doing God's will, what's best for us. In today's age of beliefs that pick and choose, it's hard to have a firm foundation of faith and trust completely in God. However, if we take time to listen, truly listen, to God's Word and will for us, we will be happier and feel more fulfilled in life. The only way to live a good life is to let God be in control and have Him at the centre.
Today's prayer comes from 'belief net' a prayer for living in God's grace:
May the grace of Christ our Saviour, And the Father's boundless love, With the Holy Spirit's favor, Rest upon us from above. Thus may we abide in union With each other and the Lord, And possess, in sweet communion, Joys which earth cannot afford. Amen.
