Angels of God
What do we know about angels? They have wings? They can fly? They are the right hand of God? It's possible, we don't really know for sure. We've seen angels appear in Scripture, to Mary before Jesus' conception, to Joseph, to many past prophets and followers of God in the Old and New Testaments. Have you heard of the idea of having a guardian angel? Today is the memorial of Guardian Angels in the Church. They are unseen angels who help us from the time we are born, assisting us on earth as we live, struggle, succeed and help protect us from temptation. Anyone with religious belief thinks and feels God working with them in their life, could it be God's working a little closer than we really know?
Today's First Reading states:'"Behold, I send an angel before you, to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place which I have prepared. Give heed to him and hearken to his voice, do not rebel against him, for he will not pardon your transgression; for my name is in him. "But if you hearken attentively to his voice and do all that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries. "When my angel goes before you, and brings you in to the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Per'izzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jeb'usites, and I blot them out' (Exodus 23:20-23).
In today's First Reading awe see that God gives us an angel to help prepare us, on our earthly pilljgrammage where we seek God. Think about the time of Advent, where we prepare the way for Christ to be born. It helps us focus on the gift of love God sends for us. In the same way, God guides each of us, with the help of our guardian angel by our side, to be prepared for a greater, happier life. God doesn't want us to rebel, but to come closer, to listen and to prepare out hearts. Take some time to thank God for guiding you and protecting you in your life.
Today's prayer comes from 'Catholic Online' the Guardian Angel prayer:
Angel of God My guardian dear To Whom His love Commits me here Ever this day Be at my side To light and guard To rule and guide. Amen
