Ignite Your Heart
What makes you different as a believer? How are we different than those who wake up, breathe and live their daily lives just as we do, but with faith? Think about it. Through baptism, we are reborn into new life. We are cleansed and awakened, truly, reborn through Christ's love for us. We are given the love and Spirit to go forth and help others to wake up, to live in faith as we do. Think about faith like a piece of music. If you throw in a bunch of music notes that oppose each other, the piece will not sound beautiful, but jumbled, broken. However, when the right chords are put into a pattern that fits, the piece will be a beautiful masterpiece. It will sound whole. This is what faith can do for us. It helps arrange everything that feels out of place, and points us towards God, towards love.
Today's First Reading states:'But as to the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need to have anything written to you. For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. When people say, "There is peace and security," then sudden destruction will come upon them as travail comes upon a woman with child, and there will be no escape. But you are not in darkness, brethren, for that day to surprise you like a thief. For you are all sons of light and sons of the day; we are not of the night or of darkness. So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we wake or sleep we might live with him. Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing' (1Thessalonians 5:1-6, 9-11).
This reading tells us that we are all sons of light and day, that we should not sleep but stay awake, alive. We can't rest our hearts but constantly be ignited, on fire with the power of the Holy Spirit filling us up, going out and embracing everything and everyone that God has given to us in this life. Take some time today to reflect on areas where you have been 'sleeping' or where your song has been chaotic. Where can you ask God to help you be a better disciple?
Today's prayer comes from 'Catholic Online' a prayer for the Holy Spirit to ignite:
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth. O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.
