A Firm Foundation of Faith
How do you build yourself up? Are you positive and hopeful about the life you are living or do you complain and bide each day just to crawl into bed at night? The big things in life help you to see what truly matters, how God is working good works in every area of your life, as long as you're paying attention and are willing to live them. We went out looking for wedding and bridesmaid dresses yesterday, and I was so nervous, believing at first that it would take so long to find exactly the right thing. However, in the morning, I gave the day to God, asking that He work wonders and let it all work out well. It was an amazing day, fun, thrilling, time for bonding, and we even picked my dress, their dresses, and our colours within two hours. When you give it to God and build a firm faith, it becomes rooted in everything you do, and it makes an enormous difference on your happiness.
Today's Gospel states:'"Hear then the parable of the sower. When any one hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in his heart; this is what was sown along the path. As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away. As for what was sown among thorns, this is he who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the delight in riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. As for what was sown on good soil, this is he who hears the word and understands it; he indeed bears fruit, and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty"' (Matthew 13:18-23).
In today's Gospel we hear about how it is important to sow on solid, firm ground, otherwise it will crumble, fall over. If we hear God's word and understand it, are inspired by it and use it in our lives, then we have sown on good soil. We need a firm foundation of trust and faith in God. Take some time to reflect today about your foundation of faith. What kind of sower are you? Do you ask God to guide your every day?
Today's prayer comes from 'Prezi' a prayer for sowing in God's love:
God of seed, God of soil, God of water and all of creation, you provide us with all the essential elements. May we recognise it is our part and our choice to be open to the nourishment and nurturing you offer. Grant us the openness to be guided by Your spirit and to bear abundantly the seeds of potential planted within us. Just as the sower bears fruit, we too are encouraged to sow, so that those who hear the word can be planted and built up in the one Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen Lord God you call us to be sowers of your fields. Open our ears to your call, inspire our minds with your wisdom, sustain us in our journey of faith. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
