Stop Sitting, Get Walking
What makes you comfortable? For myself, it's probably the thought of coming home after a long day to do nothing, nothing but get clean, snuggle up in pyjamas and watch a good movie. It's a simple thing right, making ourselves comfortable? However, what do we gain in life from just sinking into the feeling of constant comfort? We avoid challenges and experiencing new things, so as not to risk being overwhelmed or worn down. We make ourselves closed off in seeking a life of comfort, which also closes ourselves off from God's plan. So, what then are we to do?
Today's Gospel states: '"Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man's foes will be those of his own household. He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and he who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it. "He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me. He who receives a prophet because he is a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward, and he who receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. And whoever gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he shall not lose his reward."And when Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in their cities' (Matthew 10:34--11:1).
Jesus tells us that to be followers is to move beyond our comfort zone, to step out of our pyjamas and embrace the life God has given to us. To do this though, we need to be courageous and hopeful that God is bringing us on the right path. Hope leads to courage and with courage, we will do great things for the world. Ask God today to give you the courage you need to live, to be excited about life and to step out o your comfort zone.
Today's prayer comes from 'Acts International' a prayer for stepping out of one's comfort zone:
Dear God, thank You that You call each one of us to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and therein receive your forgiveness for all our sins and Your gift of eternal life—and to serve You according to the gifts and talents You have given to each one of us. Please help me to hear Your call to me and give me the courage to step out of my comfort zone and say yes to You today. Thank You for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully in Jesus's name, amen.
