God Loves You
What does it mean to love? There are so many different ways one can love and people we can share this love with. We show love towards people, our pets, towards our desires and joys. Well when it comes to our love of God, of faith, it's a different, lasting kind of love. Think of Cupid going around with an arrow. He targets two people to fall in love with one another, a familiar scenario we remember come Valentines Day. God loves us, similar to this, though to a much greater level. He uses Jesus, His Son to bring us to the fullness of life, of love with Him. Through remembering Jesus in his life death, and resurrection, we see our purpose and potential, how great a person can love, as we reflect not only God in life, but of Jesus.
Today's Gospel states: 'When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs." A second time he said to him, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep." He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, "Do you love me?" And he said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep. Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you girded yourself and walked where you would; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish to go." (This he said to show by what death he was to glorify God.) And after this he said to him, "Follow me"' (John 21:15-19).
Jesus asks Simon repeatedly if he loves him and each time he responds yes, of course I love you. By the end, he's nearly offended that Jesus would ask him three times. However, being human, we don't always see God's love for us, or realize when we're straying from our love of God. We need to dedicate time and prayer and our personal help for others to show God our love. If you had a best friend, but ignored them for a year, and taught them for help, they'd call you back. God will always call you back, no matter how far you stray. God's love is that great.
Today's prayer comes from Catholic Online a prayer to love God above all things:
God, my Father, may I love You in all things and above all things. May I reach the joy which You have prepared for me in Heaven. Nothing is good that is against Your Will, and all that is good comes from Your Hand. Place in my heart a desire to please You and fill my mind with thoughts of Your Love, so that I may grow in Your Wisdom and enjoy Your Peace.Amen.
