The Best Love Story
Everyone has heard the classic love story of the prince rescuing his princess and living happily ever after. There's usually conflict at the start, the two people being enemies originally, a dragon guarding a tower, an evil villain hunting the princess and causing conflict. I personally love the romance stories, even if there is a great amount of drama. There is so much hope and joy found in the relationship of two people and as they work through conflicts, there becomes a foundation for lasting joy in their love. We can find an even greater love story within the Catholic tradition, between God and his people.
Today's Gospel states:'For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. He who believes in him is not condemned; he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does what is true comes to the light, that it may be clearly seen that his deeds have been wrought in God' (John 3:16-21).
God loved us so much that He sent Jesus, His only son to die for us, in order for us to believe and find eternal life in a lasting love. Catholicism speaks about a love story, where Jesus is the groom and the Church is the bride. When we are baptized, we live out a life of devotion and faith. God loves us with an unconditional love, not condemning any person, but always trying to save us, to help us find our way. Let us embrace this love story, one which is beyond what we could ever imagine of a prince and princess, but of an unconditional and lasting love through Jesus.
Today's prayer comes from 'Knowing Jesus' a prayer for staying at the centre of God's love:
Help us never to forget that the safest place in a fallen world is to remain in the center of Your will, no matter where we are, who we are with or what circumstances may seem to be looming on the horizon. I pray that I may stay in the center of your perfect will, each day of my life, and that I may walk worthy of my calling and live in a way that is pleasing to You.
May I learn to walk by faith each moment of the day and not be swayed by sight or feelings or emotions.. and may I learn to trust Your word more and more with each passing day, knowing that without faith it is impossible to please You - for it is my heart's desire that in all I do and say, I may be pleasing in Your sight. Help me not only to do what is good and acceptable in Your eyes, but help me to speak and think aright. May I live in a right relationship with You, walk humbly before You all the days of my life and I pray that I may develop an attitude of grateful praise and thanksgiving. Help me to water all that I say and do with prayer and may my actions and attitudes be rooted in Your love and surrounded by Your grace.
Oh Lord I pray that the words of my mouth be pleasing and acceptable to You, and that my conversation be always full of grace and seasoned with salt - and grant me wisdom I pray, to know how best to answer everyone with whom I come in contact.. in love but without compromise. This I ask in the name of Jesus Christ my Lord, Amen
