The Armour of God
Growing up as a child, did you ever come across a song talking about the armour of God? I remember learning one at Bible camp which tells you all the pieces of armour to put on, one at a time, each having special significance, in order to make you into a soldier of God. Now this does not necessarily mean a literal soldier and ready to fight in a war, but a war in a spiritual sense, being prepared to declare one's faith and not give up hope.
Todays Reading is from Ephesians:
"10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12For we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13Therefore take the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 18Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,"
God gives us a 'helmet of Salvation' for belief in Christ; there is the 'breastplate of righteousness' for being in action and standing up for others; the 'shield of faith' helps one never to doubt in God; the 'belt of truth' is believing in the truth of God in comparison with beliefs of our world; the 'feet prepared with the gospel of peace' helps us find peace even in the most troubled times; the 'sword of the spirit' gives us wisdom through the Word of God, and helps us share this word and truly affect those around us.
Each piece of this 'armour' helps oust stand firm in our faith in order for us to fight the troubles and evil within the world. Today I had a scattered morning and got splashed with water on my walk to school. It was a tough morning, but I'm still alive, healthy, breathing and haves so much good in my life. it is important that in tough times, we look to God and remember to wear this armour in every situation, whether we are given good blessings, or what appears to be torments. God helps us to believe, to have faith, to be positive, to find peace and remember the good in our lives.
A good prayer for today is from catholic.org:
Heavenly Father, We ask You today for Your truth, As a belt tight around our waists. We put on the zeal, To announce Your good news of peace, As shoes for our feet. We put on Your righteousness, O Christ, as our breastplate. And the hope of salvation, As a helmet for our head. Father we take up faith, As a shield which is able to put out, All the fiery darts of the enemy. And the sword of the Spirit, Which is Your Word, O Lord. Father may the love, With which You have loved Jesus, Be in us and may Jesus be in us. We ask You for the grace, Of a servant heart.Amen.
